Then, there is another Bombay--the Bombay of the decadently beautiful and exotic in everything from cocktail bars to movie stars.

India: A shocking experience 16

Before I came to India my friends and family constantly told me how shocking I would find the poverty and how drastic the difference between the very rich and the very poor would seem.

Yesterday we attended a panel discussion and party provided by our instructor, Sonora Jha, as well as her mother and brother. Our arduous adventure began by riding the city train--for about 45 minutes--to the suburbs of Bombay and thereafter taking an auto rickshaw to the hotel where the event was to take place.

Three decades ago, on the verge of the release of the seminal "London Calling," The Clash was called "the only band that mattered." Fusing a worldly consciousness with sharp, tongue-in-cheek political satire and an unparalleled ability to compose songs no matter the genre, The Clash gave punk rock its spirited and righteous sensibilities before completely blowing the entire genre out of the water.

See you around, coach

The Daily Barometer, Oregon State University, OR

5 days ago by Nick Lilja

After 38 years of coaching, Dick Foxal is a man facing the sunset of his career.

He doesn't fit into his own silhouette.

Oregon State gymnasts will tell you stories you may not believe - but they aren't sure they do either. Foxal has worked for Boeing and taught in the Southeast.

Where the rubbers meet the road

In my experience, defenders of abortion, contraception and Planned Parenthood have one main thing in common: they obfuscate and try to cloud the argument.

Sara Gwin's response to my last column was predictably filled with enough rhetorical straw men and red herrings to be the journalistic equivalent of the Scarecrow falling into a giant vat of Swedish Fish.
